Rainbow Coloured Toolbox
A Colourful Series by Brenda Lanigan
Have you ever had a moment where you have had to step outside your comfort zone?
That place where all thoughts and possibilities imagined reside. The fears of “what if. “What if I fail? What if I succeed?” This fear is sometimes so great that even the most positive thoughts stop us in our tracks, and we fail to follow through.
Do you wish at times like those, that you had a tool kit of extra help that could give you the oomph and belief needed to take that leap?
Well, let me let you in on a little secret. There is such a tool kit that is available to each and every one of us. It is filled with such wonderful energy and is the stuff that rainbows are made from!
Are you curious? Read on.

Have you noticed the colours in your environment?
What about the clothes you wear or the whole foods you eat?
What colours are prominent in your wardrobe?
What colours do you reach for when you’re hungry?
Colours are everywhere! Just look around and take notice of all the different colors in your direct line of sight. Have you noticed them before? Or, are you someone who moves through life on auto-pilot? With no awareness of the surrounding beauty or the impact that these shades and hues have on your body, mind and spirit.
The colour we will be exploring in this article is RED.
RED represents our personal power. This energy resides at the base of our spine. It is also the space where feelings of security are found.
When you’re feeling fearful of stepping outside your comfort zone, wearing or eating RED can definitely boost that fire within. That belief in yourself that reminds you “you’ve got this! Keep going!”
RED also supports the adrenal system; that fight or flight response we have when fearful. The root chakra and the adrenals are one of the main sources of power in the body. Here are some signs to look for when determining the status of this area.
If weak, there is a tendency to be passive and unable to make decisions. There is also a feeling of insecurity or irresponsibility.
Eating RED foods, incorporating the colour RED into the environment will assist in raising the energy. Just be certain not to use too much in the bedroom as you want to sleep at night! RED has a habit of keeping you alert!
At the other end of the spectrum, overactive traits are cruelty, greed and an angry personality. If you recognize these traits in yourself or another, reducing the amount of RED in the environment and in the clothes worn would be very helpful. Using ORANGE instead of RED is appropriate for the overactive traits.
To offset the overactivity of RED, using the colour GREEN will help restore balance. Using GREEN also connects the energy of the root chakra with the heart chakra, where you can live in a place of love instead of reacting from fear.

When balanced you will notice an inner confidence, courage and have an energy people just love to be around.
As you can see the colour RED has a wide spectrum of attributes. For those who have lost all hope and have no energy left, RED re-ignites that spark within. If you are a procrastinator this is the best colour in your tool box to give you a kick in the pants to get you moving in the right direction!
Let’s not forget about children! Have you ever noticed children running around like lunatics, screaming and laughing? Have you ever noticed what they’re wearing? It is usually RED and sometimes ORANGE. So, if you want to have your child relax or go to sleep, ensure their pj’s and bedding are cool colours, as well, ensure there isn’t an overabundance of RED in their room.
I’d like to leave you with an affirmation you can say when you need a bit of oomph to step outside that comfort zone with confidence and courage:
I stand in my power each and every day. My body, mind and spirit are strong. I AM AWESOME & I CAN DO ANYTHING I SET MY MIND TO! I’ve got this!
Keep an eye for the next issue where we’ll be taking a look at another beautiful colour and the benefits it has for you and your tool box!
